In 1969 at the age of 17, Tom left his native Glasgow to join the British Army. Tom’s military career spanned from 1969 to 1992. He followed this with a career in Retail Management, in which he was employed from 1992 to 2012.

Tom has been writing since 2007.

He has published novels, anthologies of short stories, a five-part novel, a variety of erotica books, and a series of genre-based poetry.

Tom is presently working on more novels.

    Next Steps is a collection of short stories perfect for reading at any time. With a coffee... when you can’t sleep... Not that they’ll help you nod off; you’ll find yourself reading three, not one as planned, and then lying thinking about them.

    Exciting, tragic, fanciful, spooky, romantic – they’re all here with only one thing in common. They captivate from start to finish.

    Readers will have their favourites. Mine was Earworm by one of the guest authors, Sylva Fae, but Tom Benson’s own offerings show his talent for diversity. What could be more different than the title story, Next Steps, and Time to Let Go? Read them and decide for yourself.

    Once again Tom Benson delights with his latest collection of short stories. This time he has taken suggestions from other writers as his cue to begin each one, and invited them to add their own stories as guest contributors. It’s a unique concept, and one that works surprisingly well, creating a delicious smorgasbord of writing styles, moods, and genres. I’m a long-time fan of Tom Benson’s work, both in novels and short stories. They all provide well-crafted first-class entertainment, and this collection is no exception. My favourites of his here are Dark Places, People Can Change, and Time to Let Go, each quite different in subject matter and, like all his others, absorbing from intriguing start to unexpected finish. No one does twists in the tail quite so well. Other favourites of mine were Earworm by author Sylva Fae, who had me laughing and utterly gripped by her typically quirky story, and Nobody’s Perfect by Penny Luker, a touching tale that gave pause for thought. If you haven’t read any of Tom Benson’s books before, here is a perfect place to start. You won’t be disappointed.

    This is a little treasure box of short stories. The stories are skillfully crafted by Tom Benson and guest authors. I think my favourite one is, 'Time to Let Go' as it is relevant to today's difficult times.
    So settle down with a cuppa and enjoy these varied tales. Highly recommended.
