Helpful management tool
This book is a great resource for managers who are expected to implement constant change initiatives whilst grappling with the realities of managing delivery.
The mix of theory & practice makes it easy to read & includes solutions to common issues - such as managing upwards as well as dealing with an uncertain work environment.
I like the reflective questions which get me thinking about what I'm doing & the way I'm doing it. The research quotes from managers reassure me that I'm not alone!
Excellent guide for managers, new and experienced there is something for everyone. Cleary written by managers who have learnt lessons and are willing to share their learnings. Easy to read and follow, can refer to chapters of interest in isolation if you need to or are short of time, but i would recommend the whole book, look at it as self development.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 May 2021I've enjoyed reading the book.
It's packed with case studies in an easy-to-understand language, making the subject so much more relatable and enjoyable. The practical tips for managing delivery while sticking to goals has given me lots of idea on how I can improve my team and my performance.
For example, there is an entire section devoted to meetings! I've never seen that anywhere else, especially today, where we are all experiencing Zoom fatigue. This chapter has helped me better plan and execute my meetings so that my team members look forward to discussions and are more productive.
Another chapter I enjoyed was "Having difficult conversations" It has practical tips on dealing with challenging situations, such as discussing a team member's performance or setting expectations.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to grow their leadership and improve their organisation's performance practically. For experienced leaders, think of this book as a consolidation of your experience with added excellence.

Easy to read and follow, can refer to chapters of interest in isolation if you need to or are short of time, but i would recommend the whole book, look at it as self development. Some useful chapters for me are meetings and the ronseal section, lightbulb moment. I took my time reading this book and used it as a mini training course, there are questionnaires and exercises to complete throughout the book. Inspired reading, thank you #NetGalley for the copy to review.
