- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 September 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is a great collection of short anecdotes & stories, some hilarious and some heartbreaking but all of them very personal and every single one singing the praises of our beloved NHS. It’s the institution that puts the ‘great’ in Great Britain & we would certainly be so much worse off without it.
The real heroes in this life are those that work in our NHS and that’s never been more evident than right now. Respect to each & every one of them. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well worth a read and the proceeds go towards NHS charities so it’s a win win. I highly recommend this book.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 August 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis was amazing and it raises money for the NHS too so double win. It is a new release to tie in with the pandemic we have all and are currently experiencing. Inside contains 100 short stories from our favourite authors, celebs, musicians, chefs and comedians. These range from hilarious out of this world stories, heart breaking stories, deaths, births and honest everyday stories. We get a full range and all contain a thank you message within. There are also some beautiful poems within too. It really is a beautiful read put together by Adam Kay.
The thing that stood out to me and was mentioned a lot of time in this book is the amazement of the NHS staff and how it is all free. Just makes you go wow doesn't it? The heart of the UK. The NHS. Highly recommend. A well deserved five stars from me I'd give more if I could and a huge thank you to everyone working in our NHS. Keep going soldiers.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 August 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI bought this book following it being mentioned on The One Show.
I found it a moving and touching read. It's one that you can either read from beginning to end or just choose the celebrities you're interested in. I didn't know who everybody was but I'm not sure that was necessary, it was more about the story and you can always google the people you don't know. It made me laugh and it made me cry more than once, which is usually how I judge whether a book is good or not - if it can move you to laughter or tears.
I thought there were a few entries that could have been left out. Either because they were overly self-indulgent (and it isn't meant to be about you and how great or clever you are), or because they almost didn't seem to know what they were involved in or what they should be writing.
Overall though I think it's a book worth buying, with some interesting and personal stories and it supports a good cause at the same time.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2025Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThe stories in the book illustrate how important our NHS is to us and I found it a hugely enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2022Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseLoved the individual stories that made me shed a tear or two. But perfect as the NHS may be, people should remember is that there are times it fails. If a book was written about its failures, would we love it a just as much? Perhaps if the reason there are mishaps were highlighted ( although I suspect we all know the reasons, ) would anything be done about it? The NHS is the best thing GB has and should not be neglected due to lack of MONEY. I worked in the NHS and loved my job, I was an old fashioned nurse/ midwife and wouldn’t have traded my job for anything or anyone. There was no greater joy than handing a newborn baby to an exhausted mother that had “ pushed as if you were constipated” in order to deliver her baby. I experienced private medical care and can only say, Brits, love and treasure your NHS because the alternative doesn’t bear having. It saved my husband’s life after a heart attack, it also just about saved his life again after an intestinal blockage, it gave me a brand new knee, which hasn’t been a great success, but hey ho I’m walking, and it’s giving me a lifetime of medication free for one complaint after another, and FINALLY, because I happily paid my NHS contributions, I also have a pension until I die. So what’s to complain about, SOD ALL❤️❤️❤️❤️
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseAfter being told this NHS book was a good read l decided that maybe l would also enjoy it...not my usual reading But as the story's were short i found it easy to read and put down and start again...story's were very light entertaining to read some serious some funny and some that you get a feeling of laughter. All the people that wrote a article made it so interesting and down to earth things that may have happened to them As l said story's were short and down to earth... It was a very good book and good value for money and l would recommend reading it. As we are all facing difficult times we need to thank the NHS for all there wonderful care and support which they have been working hard for us all...And also all profits go to NHS Charities so go on buy this book you want be disappointed..
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 January 2022Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI've had my own experience with the NHS to make me grateful that it exists - like so many of the writers who contributed, I'm glad that I live in a country where you don't have to prove you can pay before you get treatment. If it wasn't for the NHS, I probably wouldn't be alive today - and the treatment I received I would never have been able to afford, had I had to pay privately.
I enjoyed most of the stories - and also appreciated those where the writer didn't have a specific experience to relate, but just wanted to say a big "thank you" to all who work for this wonderful organisation.
Only one story jarred - Irvine Welsh's contribution I felt to be in very poor taste - but that was only one out of more than a hundred, so I'm certainly not subtracting any stars from my rating.
I urge everyone to read it - especially those who grumble about the NHS - it may not be perfect, but it's the best health service in the world!
