Genesis: Get Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 5,788 ratings

A killing like no other.
A killer more twisted than he’s ever seen before.
A case that will test him to the limit.
Has Robert Hunter finally met his match?

‘Do you believe the Devil exists, Detective?’ the officer at the end of the line asks. ‘Because if you don’t . . . I’m sure you will once you get here.’

Robert Hunter is called to the most vicious crime scene he has ever attended. It is made even more disturbing when the autopsy reveals a poem, left by the killer, inside the body of their victim.

Soon, another body is found. The methods and signature of the murder differs, but the level of violence used suggests that the same person is behind both crimes. Hunter’s fears are confirmed when a second part of the poem is found.

But this discovery does more than just link the two killings – it suggests that this is the work of a serial murderer.

With no forensic evidence to go on, Robert Hunter must catch the most disciplined and systematic killer that he has ever encountered, someone who thrives on the victims' fear, and to whom death is a lesson that needs to be taught.

From #1 Sunday Times and multi-million copy bestselling author, Chris Carter, comes the most compelling and ruthless Robert Hunter thriller yet.

Really creepy opening chapter

Really creepy opening chapter
The opening chapter of this was so creepy I went my first time ever live on Tiktok as I was reading it home alone. The character comes home drunk after a night out and starts getting messages from her phone, asking how her night was then turning a little sinister. Then they send a wee video, well that was me, checked my front door and read it and the rest of the chapter on TT so I wasn't alone. Absolutely creeped me out and if you have read Carter before he has a knack for being creepy and bringing to life some seriously shady characters. The killer is brutal, the victims are very different from each other and how they are killed yet Garcia and Hunter know they are related because of something the killer leaves at each scene. Not for the faint of heart or easily offended. The killer is cruel, sadistic, brutal and the murders are graphic and stomach turning. The book also deals with a lot of triggering themes, there is a heads up at the start of the book and a page of contacts people who are struggling with mental health etc can access. If you haven't read the previous books you could start here but you miss a lot of the history and they are really good books so I would recommend going back. Dragged in and hooked from the opening scene and the book doesn't drop pace. Despite some horrific and sensitive issues being dealt with I think Carter handles them well, we know he suffered a significant personal loss too and I think you can feel the emotion/sensitivity whilst still keeping his usual graphic/horrific killer/killings. I also think many will appreciate the page of contacts for people struggling, 4.5/5 for me and I look forward to the next one. Fab choice for an October creepy theme book.

A new Chris Carter is always exciting, and this time the wait was most definitely worth it. This is without doubt, one of Chris Carter’s best reads. It begins with fear? It most definitely did.

Reading a new Chris Carter book is like settling down in front of a new box set for me. I see the words as pictures and can imagine everything thanks to the clarity in writing. However, in this case, being able to imagine the horrors depicted within the book wasn’t a treat in any way. It was terrifyingly real. The killer was certainly one of the most sadistic killers I have read about. Only one previous book of Chris’s horrified me as much.

The story behind the killings was interesting and I tried really hard to work out who was behind the killings. I failed. There are some horrendous themes in the book which may not be to everyone’s taste, mental health issues run throughout the book as does suicide, love and the inevitable loss. There is a brilliant message in this book, and I hope it is understood by those who may need it.

I can’t go into details about the story and the plot as it would spoil any one’s enjoyment who hasn’t yet read it. Just know it is brilliant, well executed and it all comes together in the end despite many twists on the way.

This is a brilliant addition to the Robert Hunter series. If you are new to the series, be warned, these books are not for the faint hearted. Start at the beginning as you will miss so much background and fantastic stories if you don’t.

I’ve been on a bit of a binge of this series having being late to the party with the Robert Hunter series and, alas, as of this date, I’ve read the last in the series.

These books are extremely graphic and violent in their content and I actually think that Genesis is the most disturbing and violent of them all.

That in no way takes away from the brilliance of the writing and storytelling and for once, when Hunters seasoned partner Garcia utters his “you’ve gotta be kidding me “ type comments that frequent all these books has a case in point!

I loved everything about this one. The body count may be less than previous books but the intrigue and figuring out what’s going on was both gripping and thrilling.

The finale I absolutely loved. You can’t really go into any detail about this book and the title without major spoilers so I obviously won’t.
What I will say is, like the rest of the series, I absolutely devoured Genesis. I was thrilled throughout. I’m kinda sad that I’ve come to the end of the series(as of this date) but I will wait very impatiently for book 13.

Bravo Mr Carter for a fantastically entertaining series. You have made this humble reader very happy.

This is the twelfth book in the Robert Hunter series by author Chris Carter. You always know what you are going to get when you read a Chris Carter novel, horrific crimes that some people may find too gruesome but so well written you can’t put the book down. I have read this series right from the start and have found each book riveting and of a consistently high standard. This book is no different and the series remains as fresh and exciting as book one.

According to this novel Robert Hunter is called to the most vicious crime scene he has ever attended, which is hard to believe given the previous books. The autopsy reveals that the killer has left a poem inside the victim which just adds to the horrendous crime scene. When another body is found it is again the high level of violence suggests that it is the same killer which is enforced when they discover the second part of a poem. With everything pointing to a serial killer Robert Hunter is going to be at the top of his game as the killer has left no forensic evidence to go on, This is a killer who is well organised and disciplined, avoids leaving any evidence and relishes the victims’ fear.

I really enjoy Chris Carter novels but can fully understand anyone who finds them a little too gruesome. This is another exciting read that I couldn’t put down.
