Warner's writing style is so engaging, I only meant to pick it up for a little while before bed but I was hooked (needless to say it turned into a late-night - I didn't put it down again until I'd reached the very last page!). The first half of the book is told from his point of view and the second hers. She is a fabulously irresistible Bella on the outside but chilling obnoxious on the inside, what a character. But the whole cast of characters is totally fascinating. I really love how it challenges stereotypes around abuse, we learn she is the villain in this picture! It was thoroughly entertaining and I literally gasped out loud, I was so shocked by the big twist. It is hard to say more without spoilers - but I do highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy. Thanks to HQ Stories for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

The book tells the story of Ben, who meets a beautiful girl, Bella, in a bar in London, and after a whirlwind romance gets married The saying ‘Marry in haste, repent at leisure’ is certainly true here! It is cleverly written first from Ben’s POV, and then from Bella’s perspective. There is also a strong cast of supporting characters – Ben’s parents, his friends and his ex girlfriend.

I really enjoyed this dark, twisted tale of domestic abuse.which is a real page turner and had me listening until 3am. It made a real change for the abuser to be female, with a male victim. Bella is evil, manipulative, scary and is one of the nastiest characters I have ever encountered! I definitely didn’t see the twist coming. The ending is explosive and had me holding my breath.

The two narrators did a fantastic job and this is definitely one ofmy favourite listens so far this year.

She is a book of two halves. First we start with Ben and how shattered he is when his long-term girlfriend, Charlotte, leaves him. He was about to propose but she didn't get to know that. Then in a whirlwind romance he meets Bella, she quickly becomes pregnant and they marry, but everything is on her terms. Bella, the 'She' doesn't come over as a very nice person and I'm sure if it wasn't for the baby, their relationship would not have lasted. She's rude to his parents and he's no longer allowed to see his friends. The brass neck of the girl makes for perfect poolside reading. Part two, and the story flips to Bella's version of events. I can't say it made me like Bella any more but one or two things slipped into place. There's quite a bit of repetition of events with living Bella's slant and perspective, but this just confirmed what a schemer she is.

I found She to be a cleverly plotted book and quite refreshing in its unusualness.

My thanks to HQ for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘She’ by HC Warner in exchange for an honest review. It was published as an ebook on 1 January and will be out in paperback on 23 January.

Once I started reading this I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a single sitting. I won’t say too much about the plot in order to avoid spoilers and would strongly suggest that it is best read ‘cold’.

Very briefly it features Ben, a successful London-based advertising executive, who has recently been dumped by his girlfriend of twelve years. He’s not in a great place but then Bella enters his life. She is sexy, spontaneous and intelligent, and it seems that Bella is everything he ever wanted. And Bella wants Ben in return - all to herself....

I have read any number of domestic/psychological thrillers that have featured controlling men so this proved an interesting twist on the premise of the manipulative partner.

Again, I am cautious about revealing too much. All I will say is that this was a brilliantly executed domestic noir that proved very satisfying and was a highly engaging page turner.

This is H.C. Warner’s fifth novel though this was her first foray into the darker territory of the domestic noir/psychological thriller. I hope that it won’t be her last given how compelling and twisty this was.

What a dark novel! I finished this book in a few short sittings and I feel as though I’ve been wrung out. It’s a tough read but a definite page turner.

I really enjoyed the writing style and the points of view in this book. It’s not for the faint-hearted though. It’s a thoroughly disturbing read and it gave me many-a-chill. I loved Ben’s character and I was so rooting for him.

If you love a dark psychological thriller that will give you a few nightmares along the way, then ‘She’ won’t disappoint!

There's a lot of good I can say about this book. The author can most definitely write - it flowed, I identified with the characters and the story gripped me immediately. I was rattling through it, unable to stop reading, until I reached the second part of the book and then became disappointed.

There was so much of the middle section of the book that was mirrored dialogue from the first part, from a different character's prospective and I found myself skipping page after page. I didn't want to read all that again - I'd read it half an hour ago! I understand that the author needed to reveal some secrets of the character, but I felt that this was lazily done and it really turned me off the book.

I finished it - and I cannot say that I didn't enjoy it. I did and I would definitely read another book from this author. The only aspects that prevented me leaving five stars are the repetition and the increasingly wet and wimpy character of the male lead, who started to irritate the life out of me by the end of the book.

This was a perfect holiday read.

I love a nasty female protagonist and Helen certainly delivered with Belle! As well as Belle, the "She" of the piece, Helen Warner has created well developed characters who were all distinct from each other (some our recent book club reads have been heavily criticised for including a confusing crowd of characters).

I also love a book with a twist, and Helen again delivered - all being plausible.

The book presented an interesting, thought provoking scenario and a compelling plot - I couldn't put it down and loved wondering and predicting what would happen next.

Wanted to scream when the flag stoned hall and granite worktop on the kitchen island were mentioned yet again and again and again !!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique twist on a domestic thriller

I enjoyed the premise of this book and the third person narrative. My issue came with the first person POV, which I thought made the story repetitive. I didn’t think we needed to rehash scenes from Bella’s POV. I also enjoyed the subversion of domestic violence, that angle isn’t told enough. All in all a dramatic story with a climatic ending.

This was one of those books I loved reading so much that I kept putting it down toward the end because I didn’t want it to end! There were some twists here and there. It kept me enraptured from the very first page. I loved the ending! I highly recommend She and I’m giving it 5 stars for sure!
