A shocking truth lies within the pages of an ancient library, locked inside a high-security complex deep beneath the Nevada desert. And the US government will stop at nothing to keep it classified. But now a shadowy group of ex-employees want the world to know - however terrifying the disclosure might prove to be. And when a single volume missing from the original collection mysteriously surfaces at a London auction house, they persuade former FBI agent Will Piper to help them obtain it and unlock the ultimate secret of the library, once and for all.
Travelling to England, Will discovers the text contains a sonnet that holds a series of clues - clues that reveal the book has had a profound effect on the history of mankind. But all the time he is being watched. And as he gets nearer to the final revelation, he and his young family become a direct target for a deadly group of men whose duty it is to guard the library's secret - whatever it takes. Product description
From the Back Cover
The Library: Only a handful know it exists . . . It holds the world's most astonishing--and terrifying--information . . . But the one book that is the key to the greatest secret of all time . . . is missing.
Former FBI Special Agent Will Piper solved--and survived--the "Doomsday Killer" case . . . and his reward was a forced early retirement. But the shattering truths he learned about the government's most covert operations won't let him rest--and now he's on the trail of a mysterious volume that's been lost for six centuries. This is the book that inspired Shakespeare and the prophecies of Nostradamus, and once Will gets his hands on it, his life will be worth nothing--his death sentence a top priority handed down from the very highest levels of power.
Because there are some truths too dangerous for anyone to know--those that concern the future, world domination . . . and the end of everything.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2020... As the the first one, but an excellent read.
I get the impression that Cooper would rather dwell on the intricacies of fact than the rough and tumble of novelistic till ringing.
However, I guess publishers have to be satisfied.
It’s a good read, but read the first one first...

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 October 2014After reading the previous 'Library of the dead' I didn't expect this to be as good , but it is and the suspense is nail biting as you get into the book and almost into the minds of the characters . I felt empathy even with the frail old Abbot and Lord Cantwell . Will is a strong character and I hope we haven't seen the last of him . There are certain Americanisms in the text , but after all the author is American. He is obviously highly qualified and very clever . The research he carried out is evident as he describes the latter day monastery at Quarr (Vectis) on the Isle of Wight to a tee.As for a previous reviewer saying about a Lime tree , he obviously knows less about our British trees than the author . I have several Lime trees on my land and they are part of the English scene . Glen Cooper is referring to the Tili europaea not the Lime fruit tree !The only slight complaint I have is that we still don't know what will happen at the 'end of days'. Still a minor gripe . A highly recommended book. Can't wait for the next Cooper offering .

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 March 2013Working on a premise set out in an earlier book ( which I hadn't read) this book is a good read. Probably a good idea to read the first book as its referred to a lot.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2013I have the hardcopy of the first book to this, Library of the Dead, and have read it and re-read it several times. The second book which follows on from the first is equally as good and I know I will be re-reading this again at some point.
Having acquired a kindle since I bought the first book I got the second on my kindle and intend replacing the first onto kindle.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 August 2014I mistakenly thought this was the first book in the series.
The author did a fine job of recounting details from the Library od the dead so I felt I knew who people were and what was going on.
You do have to suspend beyond belief as these conspiracy novels get more extreme.
Basically there exists a library which is under lock and key in area 51 which contains the date of death of every living person. Lots of books then.
One of the books is missing though and that along with the fact that the books end at 2027 the suggestion is everything ends then.
The novel recounts the creation of the books and flits between the middle ages and the present.
It is VERY entertaining and upon completion I immediately ordered the third instalment.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2017I bought the prequel to this book in a discount store to read whilst waiting at the opticians and I was enthralled, reading it just a couple of days. I sought out the next book in the series, the Book of Souls and I can honestly say I was even more impressed. Plot, pace, characters and historical subplot are really well set out. Will Piper, the main protagonist is a hugely flawed rogue that you can't help liking. I have the next book already on order!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Great Sequel!
What a GREAT sequel to Secrets, just a terrific book. The first book was SO GOOD I had my doubts whether the sequel would measure up but it did. You MUST read Secrets of the Seventh Son first or this book won't make as much sense or be as enjoyable. He does a nice job of tying the two together with the letters but please read Secrets first, you'll be glad you did. This is an adventure thriller, a fun read. Will Piper is a very likeable hero. He has his faults like all of us but deep down he's a good guy. I guess the best way to describe him is a jock who's smart, tough, likes to have fun and lives by his own set of rules. Basically someone you'd like to hang out with. As far as the book, the transitions from Vectis Abby, through history, to modern day are seamless and provide the answers to the mystery as you read along. The ending was somewhat surprising and a good way to end the story. And like the first book there was a little twist at the end. But there will be no more stories about the Library, this one closes the chapter on that story. There was one item that puzzled me. I thought when Luke returned to the Abby, that he and Felix BOTH had a book that they kept and Felix gave Luke his book before his death. That Luke then possessed two books. I need to re-read that chapter because the second book, if there was one, never resurfaced. Maybe I just misinterpreted what was being discussed. I highly recommend this book but again, to truly enjoy it, you MUST read Secrets of the Seventh Son first. I will definitely be buying The Tenth Chamber.

the second book of Library of the Dead from the same author.
With the same villain and protagonist character but totally different settings.

4.0 out of 5 stars usual 2nd volume syndrome
The first book 'Library of the dead' is a masterpiece in it's kind of fantastic history. I also liked this volume but i think in this one the Watchers are degraded into bunch of idiot dead guaranted soldiers. They designed Area 51 to hide to Library to themself ,putting to much importance on it , spending lots of money, protecting it's secret no matter what but couldn't get 1527 book from a single man, sending just a man to get the book from audition, lost it against a phone call .So many questions raised in my mind. I kind of found this volume written without putting much efforts and thoughts on it. As the writers unique feature it pokes the past and connects it to today.
